How We Started
On May 17, 1982 my wife Catherine DeGennaro and I, Vincent, bought the Depot Deli from its then owner, Irving and Shirley Levine. While fulfilling my lifelong dream that started from being a bus boy at Doral Country Club in 1968, there were two very special people who paved the road along this journey.
First and foremost, my father, who gave me the wisdom, inspiration, and encouragement necessary to take this large leap of faith in owning my own business. Next is Richard Cohen, hence the name “Richard’s Deli”, who helped me smooth out all the small, yet significant details behind the scenes, such as designing a menu. Without both of these men, I would not be where I am today.
I have been in business now for over two decades serving delicious homemade breakfasts such as old fashion buttermilk pancakes, home cooked corned beef hash, home fries and omelettes. Our specialties are the finest meats such as homemade roast turkey, roast beef, brisket, pastrami and corned beef. In addition are tasty salads, matzo ball soup, chicken or flanken in the pot, and delicious dinners, as well as our ever popular Sloppy Joes on the catering menu.
I thank God everyday for making all of this possible. I also need to thank of the employees here: especially Donald Evan for his hard work and dedication since day one; Kenny Ross for slicing more meat and making more sandwiches than imaginable; Astuko Whipple & Mary Connaughy for waiting on countless tables over the years; and last, but certainly not least, Robin Krim for answering millions of the phones calls, working the register, and catering to so many orders. Most of all I would like to thank you, our loyal customers for making Richard’s Deli such a success!
